Abstract — Harlem 2032 Initiative
Jazz Studies Program, The City College of New York
The Jazz Studies Program at the City College of New York is committed to bringing jazz performances to the Harlem community in order to celebrate and build on Harlem’s rich legacy in the history of this art form, and to strengthen relationships and build friendships with members of the community. The first step in this effort has been to present student and faculty jazz ensemble concerts in St. Nicholas Park in September 2021 and September 2022 to an estimated audience of 500 people. The concerts were made possible through a partnership with the Friends of St. Nicholas Park and a generous grant from Green/Arts Live NYC and the City Parks Foundation. With the establishment of the Annual St. Nicholas Jazz Festival and ongoing efforts to develop partnerships with Harlem’s many established music and art venues, we are determined to contribute to the joy and vitality of the neighborhood.
